She learned an increasing number of women study to become the spiritual leaders of religious institutions. The number of men
studying for the clergy has decreased. However men still resoundingly rule, found in most pulpits and with higher pay.
Her church has a woman
assigned as a Supply Pastor (holds Divinity Degree but other necessary
qualifications are being pursued). A ‘coordinating
elder’ is assigned to mentor her through her first year since
graduating from Divinity School.
The mentor helping the novice pastor, is a woman, a recently retired Reverend. In addition, their congregation is blessed to
have another retired Reverend who worships with them regularly and serves their church as a minister-in-residence. She fills in when needed. Meaning, in
the absence of the Pastor she might bring them the Sunday message and on First
Sunday, assist with Communion Service and ministers to individuals and families in need - at the request of the Supply Pastor.
These assignments provide for
the congregation to be well taken care of.
But, there is no preacher man. My friend is not thrilled.
What do you think about that?
